P50Fit Recipes: Flavour-First Food for Life After 50

Healthy recipes for adults over 50 don’t have to arrive at the table looking apologetic.

P50Fit Recipes is where I collect the meals I actually want to cook and eat. The emphasis is practical: satisfying protein, useful fibre, plenty of colour and a sensible approach to sodium. Some recipes are designed for active days. Others are simply good food that fits the long game.

I’m especially interested in cooking without added sodium. That doesn’t mean pretending naturally occurring sodium doesn’t exist, and it doesn’t turn dinner into bland “medical diet” food. It means using browning, acidity, aromatics, spices, fat and texture deliberately instead of expecting the salt shaker to do every job.

What You’ll Find Here

Each P50Fit recipe is designed to be genuinely usable. Wherever practical, I’ll include:

  • Exact quantities and serving sizes
  • Straightforward cooking instructions
  • Approximate nutrition per serving
  • A sodium traffic-light verdict
  • Notes about naturally occurring and hidden sodium
  • Useful substitutions
  • A downloadable recipe card
  • Links to the flavour or nutrition ideas behind the meal

Nutrition figures are estimates, not laboratory measurements. Ingredient brands, portion sizes and the amount of food left on a bone can change the final numbers. When sodium matters, the package label still wins.

Start With This Recipe

No-Salt Oven-Roasted Chicken Thighs

Six golden no-salt oven-roasted chicken thighs with lemon, garlic, paprika and oregano
Deep browning, lemon, garlic, oregano and paprika make these chicken thighs taste finished without added salt.

Deeply browned skin. Tender dark meat. Lemon, garlic, oregano and paprika doing the work that people often hand over to salt. These chicken thighs need about ten minutes of hands-on preparation, and there’s no flipping required.

How I Label Sodium

No added sodium means I haven’t deliberately added table salt, sea salt, kosher salt, potassium-chloride substitute, MSG or a high-sodium sauce or seasoning blend. Ingredients can still contain sodium naturally.

Low sodium is used only when the estimated serving fits the relevant nutrition-label threshold. I’ll still show the approximate milligrams so you can judge the serving in the context of your own day.

Label check required means a product can vary enough by brand that the package must be checked. Broth, canned food, spice blends, tomato products, prepared garlic and even raw poultry can carry added sodium.

Food That Supports the Long Game

I’m not a dietitian, and P50Fit Recipes isn’t a prescription. It’s a growing record of food that works in my real kitchen while I manage blood pressure, stay active and try to make choices I can repeat.

That last word matters: repeat. The healthiest meal on paper isn’t much use to me if I never want to eat it again.
