Thought of the Day:  I Feel GREAT… But My Watch Says I Shouldn’t!

“What do I trust – my heart rate monitor, or my own body?”

Stylized illustration of a fit man in his 60s running confidently across a wooden bridge on a summer morning, wearing a blue tank top, cap, and smartwatch, with forest trees and scattered clouds in the background.

Today’s Easy Run felt light, fluid, and strong. My breathing was controlled. My mind was calm.
But my watch? It claimed I was running hotter than I felt.

This isn’t the first time my perceived effort (RPE) and heart rate haven’t seen eye to eye.

So, who do I trust – the numbers, or my gut?

The answer is: both – eventually.

RPE is a skill, not a guess. It evolves over time.
And while heart rate gives me clues, it’s how I feel that teaches me to run by intuition, not just instrumentation.
