The Road to Georgina Spring Fling Half Marathon
The Week That Was: A Tissue of Lies
Every training cycle has its peaks and valleys, and this week had a bit of both. It started with a solid interval session, hit some slick terrain midweek, and then… well, let’s just say the most consistent movement by week’s end was reaching for tissues.
Training Breakdown
- A strong start to the week with a structured interval session. Managed to hit the marks on most repeats, though the last one was more of a “best effort” situation. Snow accumulation made footing tricky, but that’s just winter training in a nutshell.
- A picturesque morning with gently falling snow turned into a “where’s the road?” kind of adventure. The Lone Peaks and Sealskinz came in clutch, but precision pacing was wishful thinking in the slushy mess.
Saturday – The DNS (Did Not Start):
- Woke up feeling like I’d gone twelve rounds with a winter virus. Dry lips, sinus congestion, Advil Cold & Sinus on deck… the writing was on the wall. No run today.
Sunday – Long Run That Wasn’t:
- The plan called for 80-100 minutes in Zone 2, but recovery took priority. Sometimes, the best move is to listen to the body and let it heal.
Takeaways & Looking Ahead
- Illness happens. One missed long run doesn’t derail the entire training cycle.
- Consistency matters more than any single session. This was a lower-mileage week, but the overall trajectory is still forward.
- Hydration & rest are key. Sometimes the best training strategy is a nap.
Next week, it’s back on track with renewed focus. Georgina Spring Fling Half Marathon is approaching, and every step still counts.
