From Icebergs to Breakthroughs: A Week of Wins
This week had a bit of everything—speed, endurance, unexpected cross-training, and a whole lot of winter surprises. But no matter what Mother Nature threw my way, I kept pushing forward. Here’s how it all went down:
Tuesday – Intervals
The week kicked off with some structured speedwork. Short bursts of intensity, controlled effort, and a solid reminder that my legs have gears beyond “cruise.” A strong session to set the tone!
Wednesday – The Bike Joins the Party
I added a cycling session today—a new staple as I gear up for the Georgina Spring Fling Half Marathon. A great way to build endurance while keeping the impact low. This will be a regular thing moving forward.
Thursday – Tempo Troubles & Ice Road Adventures
A ‘sink or swim’ kind of run—except instead of water, I was dodging (and sometimes trudging through) massive puddles and ice patches. Effort-based pacing was the name of the game, and despite the obstacles, I came out the other side stronger for it.
Friday – Strength & Yoga
Though I don’t usually log these, today featured a lower-body strength session in the morning and my weekly yoga session later in the day. Keeping the balance between strength, mobility, and running is key!
Saturday – Easy Running Bliss
A straightforward, enjoyable run under clear blue skies. Felt great, ran easy, and let the legs do their thing. No surprises, just smooth miles.
Sunday – Running by Feel Experiment Continues
Another run without HR zone alerts. I started with a group, which made staying in Zone 2 a challenge, but once I broke off solo, I found my rhythm. Drifted into Zone 3 at times, but this ‘Run by Feel’ project is a work in progress—and I’m embracing the process.
Final Thoughts:
This week tested my adaptability with unpredictable conditions, but I came through it stronger and more dialed in. Winter is still holding on, but I can almost taste spring— and with that, I’ll keep flinging myself into training, no matter what the forecast brings.
