Running Goals: Are You Interested or Committed?

This has been a good week of again running consistently to plan, after having missed roughly three weeks, initially due to a lower back issue, then subsequently ‘buried’ by work commitments. In retrospect, I probably could have gotten out for some runs once my back felt better.

Day 1/4 Distance: 6.03 km Avg pace: 5:53/km

Interested or Committed?

I recently listened to a Marathon Training Academy podcast featuring mindset expert, John Assaraf. The co-hosts and guest discussed the difference between being ‘interested’ in or ‘committed’ to achieving a goal or goals. This mindset message was timely for me as I pursue my long-term running goals.

I planned on running at my slower pace as I eased back into training, but I couldn’t seem to rein myself in.

Day 2/4 Distance: 6.02 km Avg pace: 5:49/km

This was supposed to be another ‘easy’ day! I felt great, nonetheless.

Day 3/4 Distance: 9.38 km [planned: 8.00 km] Avg pace: 6:48/km

Though I planned on 8 km, it’s so easy to get swept up in the excitement of running with a group.

Day 4/4 Distance: 12.13 km [planned: 10 km] Avg pace: 7:24/km

Finally an Easy Day!

I probably could have slowed my pace down further, but all-in-all, an enjoyable run under overcast skies and a brisk wind at times.
